How do you make money by blogging? What are the ways to start making money from a website. For many making money from a hobby or creating something that helps others is the ultimate goal for many.

As a beginner blogger this seems like a pipe dream but somehow I managed to make over $100 in just a year of blogging. After a year or so of publishing articles, I started to earn $15 and $20 a month. In this post I’ll show you how I generated the revenue with the figures to back it up.

Earning a little money doing what you enjoy is a fantastic achievement. Whilst this is just a small amount of money, hopefully it seems relatable. It proves that you don’t need 100,000 views to make money, all you need is an engaged audience.

How To Make Money By Blogging If You Are Not Established Yet

Once you are established enough you can build up affiliate links and earn money from sponsored articles. There are also a number of high earning advertisement companies. These often require you to have a minimum number of page views or sessions each month.

  • Mediavine: Requires 25,000 sessions a month (usually around 30,000 page views)

  • Monumetric: 10,000 page views to apply.

I know that it can be a little difficult to monetise your site and you have to find what works best for you and your audience. On a side note, I’m grateful to my audience that click on my ads, even if they find them annoying, as they know it powers my site.

How Do I Make Money Blogging?

Working in partnership with Interactive Offers. They are an up and coming advertising company and you can find them on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin. They work with reputable sites such as the Wall Street Journal and Motley Fool.

I never originally wanted to go down the path of ads as my main focus has, and will always be, to provide helpful content to my audience. With this in mind, Interactive Offers have been a great fit as the ads are relevant and non-intrusive.

Their advertisements are easy to place and restrict if you don’t like certain ads. The ads can be applied in a range of forms, including my favourite display ads, that can be placed anywhere on your site. There are also dedicated email ads where you can target specific people.

My Results Of Making Money At Blogging

Now I know $100 isn’t a phenomenal amount of money but it does seem to grow in relation to the amount of effort I put in these days.

A while back I wrote a similar post to this one, titled Can You Really Make Money Blogging? My Honest Answer Might Surprise You. At this time, I’d earned £69.46 from 21 clicks ($3.31 per click).

I’m not sure if the rates have dropped due to advertisers not paying as much, interactive offers growing their margins or if this was preferential treatment for new signups. However, my average pay per click is still $0.72. So not all that bad.

How Can You Make Money With Blogging?

If you are a blogger that produces relevant content then you can sign up for Interactive Offers. You can pretty much be set-up in less than a day or two. When I signed up they asked me to add a test link to my site which they could check and they even let you keep any money from clicks on the test link.

They provided excellent customer service throughout the set-up process and if I had any questions at a later date. It’s also easy to get paid, as they pay out once you reach a certain revenue threshold (approx $100), or I think in the instance of my payment it was because of the time duration (e.g. 6 months).

Interactive Offers Example Display Advertisement

Using a simple ad such as the below example, you can see that it’s clear, relevant to a financial audience and can be placed anywhere. The ad below has been placed using a simple HTML code in an HTML box. (Disclaimer: I will earn money if you click on this ad. Thanks in advance :)).

Display ads which range from:

  • 300 x 250
  • 728 x 90
  • 300 x 600
  • 468 x 60
  • 160 x 600
  • 970 x 90
  • 120 x 600.

You can also accept offers for certain advertisements which are worth more than display ads but they take more management because they have an expiry date.

Final Thoughts On Monetizing Your Site As A New Blogger

As a new blogger you can try out many ways to monetize your site but this can ultimately lead to wasted time, poor rates or having to jump through hoops. This was not my experience with Interactive Offers and even when I tried to manage their expectations when it came to traffic, it didn’t bother them in the slightest.

This revenue is great as even a small amount can pay for site costs such as; hosting fees, domain names and premium features for the site to enhance user experience. It can unlock extra features in tools such as Convert Kit to allow me to contact and even automate important information to my readers.

If you don’t use Interactive Offers and you aren’t earning money you may have to continue subsidising the blog yourself, which isn’t always sustainable. Also, as you’re currently reading a financial management blog, chances are you like making/saving money.

There Is No Cost To Trying To Make Money By Blogging

Feel free to try out Interactive Offers and see what you think, remember you can always just stop posting ads if you don’t like it. However, this might be the form of monetizing your site that helps you long-term, or even an intermediate step to help you get your blog where you want it to be.

When you get your blog to this stage you can actually earn money from recommending affiliate products you like, such as Bluehost, Convert Kit etc, which you can actually find on my Wealth Building Resources page of my site.
